Welcome to the website of apartment “het Kolffje” and B&B “Voorhuis Kolff”

Apartment “Het Kolffje” is a small apartment dating back to 1791 with its own small patio and entrance.

B&B “Voorhuis Kolff” is a monumental house built in 1791 by Lambertus Kolff then mayor of Middelharnis. It has 2 Bed en Breakfast theme rooms.

Location

Apartment “Het Kolffje” and B&B “Voorhuis Kolff” are in the centre of Middelharnis close to the charming small harbour with its variety of restaurants and the shopping area on the dike. Bicycles can be rented to explore the surroundings.

Shopping: just a 2 minutes’ walk from the apartment or the B&B is “d’n Diek” with its shops and supermarket.

Going out: on “d’n Diek” and surrounding the small yachting harbour you have a variety of restaurants, some bars and a lounge bar discotheque “le Bateau” open on Friday’s and Saturday’s. R’dam is 45 minutes by bus or car.

Surroundings

Situated on the former island of Goeree – Overflakkee Middelharnis is surrounded by the North sea, the Haringvliet and the Grevelingenmeer. Tourists find the island attractive for its nature, the vast open landscape and the peaceful atmosphere. There are a lot of hiking and biking routes. “De Slikken” on the island are famous for their flora and fauna.

Middleharnis is considered the centre of the island. It has a large variety of shops, restaurants and cafés. Every Wednesday a local market is held in the pretty Voorstraat of the neighbouring village of Sommelsdijk. Sommelsdijk also has a small but attractive museum: “Het Streekmuseum”.

Several villages have the same characteristics:

Church – Voorstraat – Harbour

Lovely Examples to visit are: Middelharnis, Sommelsdijk, Dirksland

Nearly every village has a yachting harbour, which livens up the sleepy villages in summertime. The small yachting harbour of Middelharnis is well worth a visit on a warm summer day. The restaurants around the harbour tend to put their tables and chairs outside on the pavement and road, ideal for watching people on boats and yachts arrive and depart  while enjoying a drink or meal. On these summer evenings the restaurants serve dinner outside thus creating a distinct French feeling of “joie de vivre”.

Villages and beaches: Zierikzee, Ouddorp, Goedereede and the harbour village of Hellevoetsluis are only a bike hike away. Goedereede is a quaint historic village known for its artists. Ouddorp is well known to sun lovers because of its vast beaches. For those who want sun and sea close by there are the small beaches along the Haringvliet or Grevelingen near Middelharnis where it is just as enjoyable. Stellendam is a fishing village famous for its shrimps

Touristic sights are: Faunapark Flakkee”,” Neeltje Jans” and “the Haringvliet Expo”; our national water defense system after the flooding of the islands in 1953. There are several local events which take place every year. Information about them can be found at the Tourist Information Centre (VVV Goeree-Overflakkee)

Physical activities: several golf courses, horse riding, indoor swimming pool, windsurfing, kiting, canoeing, fitness clubs and tennis courts.
